Which font reads best from a distance?

Posted by Lisa23 days ago

Client wants a lot of text on the upright. We're worried it'll look cramped or won't read well from a few metres away. What fonts do you guys use when there's a lot of text? Want something clear and not too thin.

We use a simple sans – nothing fancy. The thinner scripts look nice up close but from 2m away they disappear. We show clients both and they usually get it.

Same. We have 3 'readable' fonts we recommend for long text. The fancy ones we only use for a short line or a name.

We had a client insist on a script font for a whole poem. We did it. They came back 6 months later saying you can't read it. So now we push for simple if it's more than a few lines.

Second that. We show them a mock-up at 2m distance – take a photo and zoom out. Usually convinces them.

Good idea with the photo. We'll try that. Thanks.
